I'm back and I've noticed I'm not the only one who has 4+ months since their last blog posting. Whew! Summer love'n just takes over and who wants to be sitting in front of the computer when there's pools to swim in, parks to play on, bbq's to grill'n and beaches to lie on? This at least could account for the first month of our summer, however the real reason this blog hasn't seen an update since May is two-fold: 1.) We unexpectedly found out we are expecting again and 2.) we moved from our condo into a house, with a yard people!
In June, Father's Day weekend in fact, I phoned Herb at work and the conversation went something like this:
Jenna: "I've been feeling a little weird lately, like I do when I'm pregnant."
Herb: "Uhhh, say that again?"
Jenna: "I'm sure it's just the effects of the mini pill. I can't possibly be pregnant again."
Herb: a hesitant sigh of relief.
The following morning when the test turned up positive, all I could do was laugh. It was inconceivable. Eden was only 7 mos old. I nursed her regularly and I hadn't had a hint of a menstral cycle. How could this be? She and the baby will be 16 mos apart. Not quite Irish twins, but neither is it the 3-year gap we had happily planned on.
My first thoughts were indeed selfish. "I'm not going to Cancun." My parents are planning a trip for their children and their spouses to that little paradise in Feb. of 2010. Herb was more of a realist. It took him 3 hours after the telling before he could talk to me about it. Several months passed before he told his mom, or another living soul. Needless to say, we are both settling into the idea that we will be a family of six with four children ages five and under.
All along we have known our baby will be a boy, we even have his name picked out. Our feelings were confirmed in an ultra sound a few weeks ago and thankfully all is going well and he seems to be thriving with a due date of Feb. 5th. We look forward to the arrival of our little one and feel that it must be his time to be here and that he will be a great blessing to our family.
With the anticipation of a sixth member of the family we have made some big changes. In August we moved from our little condo into a house with a front AND a backyard. Those of you who are familiar with the DC metro area know what I'm talking about. Our ward boundaries consist mostly of condos, apartment buildings and town homes. There were only a couple of neighborhoods with single-family homes that we could consider. We had our eyes on one particular neighborhood for several months and were excited when we found a rental home in our price range that was located near the school we wanted our kids to attend. It all happened in a flash. Within a day of signing a contract on the house, we found a very nice couple (rather, they found us) to rent our condo and within two weeks we were moved in and one week later we had our condo ready for the new couple. The ease in which all of this fell together has been further evidence to me that our little one is meant to be here at this time and that the Lord is willing to provide the means for his arrival.
We have all enjoyed having the extra space to move around and a yard to play in. I am still trying to figure out where things go and how to fill all this space to make it feel more like a home. I realize everything can't be aquired at once, but I am open to decorating advice and free furniture.
As if expecting a fourth child and moving into a new house weren't enough changes for one summer, I also found myself reaching another milestone: Soccer Mom. It's official. I now am the proud owner and driver of a mini-van. Honestly, I love driving around in my smooth Odessey mini -van. I love even more that we now have two cars and I can drive anywhere I want, anytime I want and Herb can drive anywhere, anytime he wants. It's heavenly and great for our marriage.
